Math topics for ages 9–10

Number sense first, then the arithmetic and the shapes, measures and data work that school actually examines. Each topic ends in a Practice Zone that builds a fresh question set every visit.

Middle-primary work: multi-step problems, real vocabulary, and the first topics where a wrong method matters more than a wrong answer.

The Digit Houses

Every digit lives in a house, and the house decides how much it is worth. The same 7 can be worth seven — or seven thousand! Flip every card to walk down the street.

  1. The smallest house, on the right. A 7 here is worth just 7.
  2. One step left, ten times bigger. A 7 here is worth 70.
  3. Another step, another ×10. A 7 here is worth 700.
  4. A 7 here is worth 7,000. Notice the comma — it is a signpost, not a full stop!
